The final book in this series takes place in Montana, where the Clemens and Wenthworth Cabot are staying for one week on their way to San Fransisco and the beginning of Mark Twain's world tour. as you might expect, they once again become involved in a murder and touch basis with various western personalities.

An amusing aspect of the plot is the very real, historical existence of a unit of colored American soldiers who rode bicycles. Left untold is the cross-country trek of these men who set records for traveling across the U.S.

I suspect, from certain passages in this volume, that if the author had continued this series, Cabot and Clara Clemens might have become more involved. But this is the last novel in this series.

Unlike all the others, the murderer is pretty easy to pick out. However, his fate is very different from all the other murderers Mark uncovered in this series.

I think that a pre-requisite for really enjoying this entire series is enjoying the writings of Mark Twain. If you do not, then this series will not be as interesting as many other mystery series. I say this as I felt that the characters and plots are not equal to many other really good mystery series.

Even though Mark has always been one of my favorite authors, I sometimes found myself getting a little tired of the Twain and Cabot characters in this series.
