(from the back cover) Tootle, a baby locomotive, must obey the rules of locomotive school if he wants to lead a fast train someday. But once in a while he breaks those rules by going off the track and wandering into a lovely green meadow...until one day he's discovered. With charming illustrations by the great Tibor Gergely, Tootle offers an enduring message about the conflict between temptation and responsibility.

Originally written in 1945, back when you could be a gay little train, and they'd find it queer if you had a daisy in your bell. It's kind of the opposite lesson to the book Ferdinand, the lesson here is "Always stay on the Tracks" and don't go pull daisies out in the field. Oh, well, I guess that was the spirit that won WWII.
