Yet another installment of the Long Tall Texans series, this book describes the hilariously fast courtship of veterinarian Dr. Bently Rydel and vetertinary technician Cappie (seriously?)Drake.

Romances, by nature, are repetitive in their plotlines or stories. This book is no exception. There's humor, however unintentional, of the residents of the small Texas town of Jacobsville.

Cappie, 23, seems to be relatively stable. However, she does have a jerkish ex-boyfriend who causes problems, and a handicapped brother, Kell, whom she cares for. Bentley Rydel is a typical alpha male. In the opening chapter, we see how arrogant and rude Dr. Rydel can be, and we also get a primer on what groomers and veterinary technicians do for a living.

However, the romance stalls for a while towards the middle and ends of the book and Palmer introduces a slew of newer characters, some of whom are mercenaries. The mercs are friends of Cappie's handicapped brother, Kell. Cy, Eb Scott, Cash, Dead-Eye...now there's a motley crew to read about. I found myself caring more about their adventures as mercs than I did about Cappie (stupid, stupid name) and Bentley.

Diana Palmer has been one of my favorite writers for a long while. And I am really sad to say that the last 5 books have been a real disappointment. The dialogue between the characters is stilted and slapshtix(?) as someone else suggested. And the plot is nonexistent. It's a fast read but at the end you are left with huh???

I am so disappointed. I have every book Diana Palmer or Susan Kyle has ever written and it seems like the last few books have taken a sharp turn downward. Hoping to find a Abby and Calhoun... I found instead a book that seemed so slap stick silly at times, too pathethic to be real and disappointing. I even put the book down several times ( something I never do with Diana Palmer) to refocus and reread a portion to get the Palmer majic back. But alas.....not found in this book. WHere oh where are you my favorite writer????? I miss you!

A cute little romantic story about a woman-hater Veterinarian that falls hard and fast for his new assistant. His assistant, Cappy, lives with her brother who is paralyzed and in a wheelchair. You get the impression he was either working for the government or a mercenary when the accident happened that paralyzed him from the waist down, Also, both Cappy and her brother are being chased by Cappy's violent ex-boyfriend.

A quick read, and just a prelude to more books that will be out soon, involving the same characters.
