Is the site in need of any help -- tour guides, etc.? I'd be interested in volunteering, but didn't see any place it was mentioned in the help docs or anything.

Anyone can help by supplying information that isn't on the books' listing pages.  Just pick some out and click on "More Options" then click on "Edit Book Data"  and put the information you have found on that page.  I usually say I'm posting it because there's no content description and that I found whatever description at what site - like Amazon's Product Description.  It isn't hard and I think it helps.

If you'd like to be a Tour Guide, submit feedback to the PBS Team and let them know. Put "Tour Guide" in the subject line. They will get back to you and tell you the next steps to take to become one.

You would also request joining the Data Team or the Image Team through Feedback. You can do that stuff without joining the teams, but you get access to the forums when you join the teams that can give you can get a lot of guidance on how to find the information to do a full edit and how to format edits.

Before you make a decision on if you want to be a Tour Guide, keep in mind that it is a bit of a commitment. While you can put your Tour Guide duties on hold, you're never really completely free from the possibility that someone will contact you with a question or something that you'll feel a bit duty bound to answer ASAP, even if you happen to be doing something else at the time.

If you don't want to commit yourself, then submitting book data and/or cover images really is the best way of helping PBS (you can even join the Image or Data groups, but you can do the same work without doing so if you wish), and it really does help a lot. But, if you don't mind being in a position where you will sometimes (and some days quite frequently) have to basically drop whatever you're doing temporarily to help sort out another member's question or problem, then come join the party. We can always use more Tour Guides.

Here is an old thread about the book data and images teams.

On the last page is a request for help on the Large Print topic.  That is a huge ongoing project.

If you are interested in helping with the database (editing descriptions on books, or finding and uploading images) send me a PM and I'll give you the deatails of what is involved, and how to go about volunteering. Neither are really difficult jobs, but the database is so large, that many, many hands are always needed to keep up with the influx of new books. Working on the database is probably one of the neediest volunteer positions of all the different areas. Let me know if you'd like to know more, I'd be happy to tell you more!
