I really want to finish this book, but I am not enjoying it! Someone tell me if I should stick it out! I am half way in. |

I've read it twice. I enjoyed it more the first time. Can you tell me why you're not enjoying it? Maybe then I can give a recommendation as to whether you should stick it out.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a wonderfully told story of a young girl during a particular time. You absolutely should stick it out. As I've posted on another forum, the story means more when the reader is more mature. Rose |

Thanks for the input, I guess I will stick it out, I think it is just a little slow for poolside reading. |

I think it's a slow book but I love it - I got more out of the second reading than the first. I like how the mother says she tries not to favor the son over the daughter but just can't help herself - and that happens in real life regardless of a parent trying not to show favoritism I think. I also liked how things weren't easy and the talk the mother gives the daughter near the end how she'd answer as a mother and as a fellow woman about a guy she was seeing. and I loved how she wanted an education and loved to read! I t was the little things like that that sucked me into the story |

I love this book. It is a coming of age story during a difficult time period. Great writing. |
