---New York Times best seller by the author of FIRST OFFENSE---
Stella Cataloni is a dazzling D.A. in Dallas who has become a media suprstar with spectacular court victories in hardball homicide cases. But now she is charged with a monstrous murder, and those she thought were her friends--and enemies she never knew she had--move in for the kill.
Is she guilty or innocent? Or both? As flashbulbs explode and video cameras roll, Stella must confront an act of violence that scarred both her body and mind. She must explore a labyrinth of corruption, love and lust that stretches back fifteen years. She must outduel a rival female D.A. who uses every trick in the lawbooks and every seduction of her sex. And, using the most powerful courtroom tools from forensic animation to virtual reality, Stella must apply every ounce of nerve and brains to escape an unseen enemy who will stop at nothing to see her dead.

Very good book, the only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that for lawyers, etc. Rosenberg always had them 'shouting' when they talked and I found that part unbelievable and the people are not very likable but the story was good.

Brilliant, hard-driving Stella Cataloni is the start of the Dallas District Attorney's office, with a amazing 100 percent conviction rate. But the conviction she most desperately wants eludes her. The fire that years also killed her parents and scarred her life remains unsolved. When her ex-boyfriend Tom Randall, who Stella is convinced set the fire, suddenly reappears in Houseton, Stella vows revenge.

But when Randall is brutally murdered, his death puts the arson case in a new light and give Houston DA Holly Oppenheimer the ruthless opportunity to put Stella behind bars for both crimes. Stella's key hope of proving her innocense is to do what the police cannot or will not do: find the killer who has mocked the law not once but twice.
