It's pretty cool. You guys try it yet? Go look at the bottom of a book listing page. I've started doing some of the books on my bookshelf. help doc: The Book Wiki Last Edited on: 7/14/09 5:31 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

|

Thanks Sara! I missed seeing this somehow.... |

I'm pretty sure it's new. I'll have to go and check it out further and see what all you can do with it. |

for a full explanation look up WIKI under help section |

Sounds like what they intended for Tags, but that didn't work the way they wanted it to so now we gotta go enter the info into another spot :-\ |
|||
|
|||
I haven't tried it out yet, but it sounds a lot more sensible that the tag system, which is mostly more annoying than useful. |

these will be searchable and clickable (I think like tags are) once there is enough info entered into them. At least, that's what the Help doc says. |

I just saw it today, but it looks interesting. |

Looks interesting. I can't wait to see how it will work once we start filling the information for all the books. |

I just linked the book I'm currently reading to one of the posts in another forum, and found the Book Wiki thing - that's really cool! Gosh, just what I need: another 'project' like this to play around with' I'm OC/anal enough as it is! This would be may too much fun to play around with. Gail |

Ooh, yeah...something else for me to do on this site instead of reading my TBR pile, lol :) I agree, I think it will be very useful when there is enough info entered in! More useful than the tags seem to be. |

Could someone give me a title they added info for? I'm curious to see what it looks like when it's used. |

This is a title a put a little info on: Straight from the Hip ::

I don't like that you cannot have more than one series showing. For anthologies (where it would be most useful because they don't have the series info in the title) it will only show one on the front screen, you have to go look at the edit history to find the others. Right now it just seems like I scroll forever to get to see the same info I scrolled past in another format. Last Edited on: 7/14/09 11:28 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

OMG...one more thing to take time away from actually reading books. Seems like people will do anything rather than actually read! How many ways/times/places do we really need to have to classify, organize, pigeon-hole, genre-ize, tag, snag, link, etc? What practical purpose will it really serve? It just really seems like overkill. I read a lot of series--so I have Stop! You're Killing Me and Fantastic Fiction websites in my speed dial. If I'm wanting the next in series and I don't know which title is up next, I click and go to one of those websites to look it up. Takes a couple of clicks, and about 20 seconds. I just don't see the appeal of all this extraneous stuff. Cheryl |

I agree, Cheryl. Wikis, folksonomy, and other web 2.0 stuff, if implemented well, can have many benefits. But I've yet to really see the benefit of web 2.0 tools on PBS.

Thanks, Lisa. |

Yes, I love this new feature. I was able to tag the name of a series under the book wiki. I'm sure I'll find other uses, too. |

I really hope people don't put personal information in there like they do now with tags. It makes tags useless to me. Tags here and tags on other sites seem to be used totatlly differently. I hope this turns out to be a true Wiki and not just personal tags again. |
