This is a hardcopy, signed 1st edition. Think Alister Maclain meets Robin Cook or Tess Gerritsen.
I stumbled across this book by accident Chapters (big-box book superstore in Canada) had a Buy-3-Get-1-Free sale, so I took a chance on something new for my freebie. Then, I waited a few years before I read it.
Big mistake this turned out to be one of, if not my favorite reads of the year.
An epidemiologist is sent to a scientific stronghold in the Canadian Arctic to investigate some mysterious deaths. Since she will be confined there through the Arctic winter, there is added incentive to find out what happened. Interpersonal relationships, Inter-country relationships, and clandestine undercurrents in both complicate her efforts and her life.
Great characterization, excellent pacing, and an engaging plot combined to produce a novel that I had trouble putting down until I finished it.
My understanding is that Mr. Jurjevics spends most of his time assisting other authors get their works out to the readers. (Editor? Publicist? Publisher?) That's great, but the world also needs to hear more from him directly. Get back to the keyboard at your earliest convenience, Mr. Jurjevics!!
