I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Wow- I absolutely loved this book! I rarely ever give out a 5 star rating- but I really enjoyed this one. It immediately grabbed my interest, and held it straight through to the last page. It made me want to move to Golden Falls!
The hero, Cody Bradford, lives far off the grid in Alaska- only making the trip into the town of Golden Falls when he needs to pull his 48 hour shifts at the Golden Falls Fire Department. He is a true born and bred wilderness man, having grown up in a tiny town of 9. He is considered to be kind, but socially awkward.
The heroine, Cassie Holt, grew up as a wealthy city-girl in New York City. She is a spunky young reporter who has acquired a persistent stalker. After a particularly frightening incident, she decides to get as far away as possible and takes an news anchor position in Golden Falls, Alaska. Her boss decides it would make a good story for her to do a ride along with the fire department, and Cody is assigned as her liaison. Sparks fly, and Cody proceeds to give Cassie a series of "Alaska lessons" to see if a city girl could make it in Alaska (although he also really wants to spend time with Cassie!)
It was so much fun to watch the relationship develop between these two. They had terrific chemistry, and the spicy, sexy scenes fit well and helped to deepen the story instead of detracting from it, which I appreciate! I loved that there was a great plot behind the romance, and the character development was very good. There was always the looming deadline of Cassie's departure from Alaska that created a sense of sadness that lingered behind the fun. And ohhh... there is a scene where Cody has purchased new wineglasses that almost had me breaking down into tears.
The suspense part of the story (with the stalker) was also well done. I never felt like it was over the top, and I could actually see something like that happening in real life. I also very much enjoyed the author's descriptions of the Alaskan scenery. It was very easy to picture everything that she was describing.
This was the first book that I have read by Scarlett Andrews, but it will definitely not be my last! I plan to start reading book 2 in this series very soon.
