Enjoyable, especially dealing with the characters diagnosis of diabetes and how the Club dealt with competition.

If you're feeling nostalgic for your 1980's girlhood, look no further. Still great for tweens now, especially these early ones (actually written by Ann M Martin).

Having diabetes is the worst thing imaginable, according to Stacey McGill. Her parents treat her like a child. The hospital stays and doctor visits make her miss school a lot, and she loses most of her friends due to them either getting mad that she's not spending any time with them or the fact that they think she's too sick.

When Stacey moves to Stoneybrook, she meets Claudia, Kristy, and Mary Anne. When they invite her to join the Baby-sitters Club, she's thrilled! She's afraid, however, that when they find out about her diabetes they won't want to be friends with her anymore.

Things become troublesome for the four when rivals come into town called the Babysitters Agency. With the Agency's ability to do late-night hours and having more babysitters, the Baby-sitters Club is worried that they'll have to close up shop.

Stacey's plate gets even more full when she starts having to make frequent trips to New York City. With all babysitters needed "on deck" to battle the rivals, Stacey's absences start getting noticed by Kristy and the others. How long will Stacey be able to keep her secret a secret? What will happen when her new friends figure out the truth?

A fun, quick story that does a great job of developing Stacey in this series. The author does a great job of balancing Stacey's internal and external problems. The plot is well-done, and the characters are likable. Readers who like realistic fiction, stories about New York, and tales about friendship will enjoy THE TRUTH ABOUT STACEY.

I read this book when I was seven. I was diagnosed with diabetes at age nine, and it helped me get through it and I knew what it was. Thank you, Ann M. Martin.

SUMMARY:
The truth about Stacey is that she has diabetes. Nobody knows...except her friends in the babysitters club.
But even they don't know the real truth about Stacey. Stacey's problem is her parents. They won't admit she has the disease, and they drag her to practically every doctor in America!
Seeing so many doctors made Stacey lose one friend, and she won't let it happen again. Especially now-when the Babysitters Club needs her more than ever!

ISBN 0590421247 - The Baby-Sitters Club series always ranks in my favorite kids' books. They usually have nice messages without getting preachy, and this one is no different.

Stacey's got diabetes and very few people know about it. Her parents and the rest of the BSC know, but even her one-time best friend from New York doesn't know. When Stacey gets tired of being dragged from doctor to doctor, she tries to take control without hurting her parents' feelings. It's a bad time to be running off to New York, anyway, because the BSC has competition! The members of the new Baby Sitters Agency can stay out later, and they have great advertising gimmicks, stealing the girls' longtime clients with ease.

It's only book #3! Could it possibly be over already? Of course not, but it's always fun to see how the girls solve their problems. Martin's got a gold mine in the timeless Baby-Sitters Club series!
