As always, a great book full of mystery, whodunits, and twists. Butcher slams us into the story from the very first paragraph and doesn't let up for the entire book. No Fey or Michael in this one, but everyone else makes an appearance, including the heroic little Toot. There are so many characters in Dresden's world, now, that your favorites may not get enough "screen time" in every book, but he at least gives them all a cameo.
Taken as a whole, the Dresden Files series is a very LONG and thorough build-up to a dramatic climax, which I assume is the identification and defeat of the Black Council. Each book, a story in itself, leaves enough questions to make you drool for more. Some outstanding questions are: Who or what is the black council? What's the whole story behind Dresden's Mom? Now, we have a new one: What's the backstory on the island?
Delightful read, can't wait for more.

I was happily reminded why I loved this series. I have missed Harry ("hells bells") and this one jumped straight into his crazy mixed up world of magic, vampires, conspiracies, werewolves... not to mention a new creature, of which I am happy to say that it only exists within this book. It is true that this one is a little bit more on the darker side in that there isn't too much to hope for (except for the continued life of Harry, but what else is new) due to everything that happens, but now the books that follow can go into the Black Council and the HUGE battle that I'm sure will pop its head up soon.

I have always really liked the Dresden series, but it seems that this one has started to take a sinister turn. A prominent person is killed off in this book. Harry's love interest is no longer an interest. In fact, you find out that things are more that what they seem when it comes to Harry's love life. I am disappointed at the fact that Michael is not mentioned at all in this book. Harry loses Thomas, but you will have to find out for yourself how that happens. Everyone seems to be at war with themselves, including the White Council and the White Court. Someone is betraying everyone and no one knows who. With this being book 11, and there is only supposed to be 20 books in the series, I am anxious to see what is going to happen in the upcoming novels.
