This is a rosy tale of three disparate ATS (Army Territorial Service) girls having a "good war", stationed in a quiet backwater, "Somewhere in England", well out of any action. It is more about their growth into young, independent women -- in this book the war is used as a means to throw people together who normally would not have known each other...one of the the girls, a poor orphan from Liverpool ends up meeting and falling in love with a shy, bumbling, wealthy young man. Another girl comes into her inheritance at 21 and discovers that her fiance had ulterior motives for trying to push her into a quick marriage. If you like a sweet read with a happy ending, but enjoy lots of road blocks as the characters proceed towards the end of the book, you will enjoy this book. Quick, light, breezy read set in WWII England.
