This book was so-so. I did read through to the end, and it kept my interest up somewhat.

I think this book is geared more towards the younger YA crowd, i.e. age 12, 13 or 14. The male character is 15, but the female is a few years younger (not specified exactly). Cara, who goes to boarding school, comes to live with her parents for the summer at a Navajo Indian Reservation. Her parents own a trading post there - even though they're not Native American. There she meets a Navajo boy, and they go on to solve the mystery of his grandfather's past and the "skin walker" who haunts him.

Although this book does have serious subjects in it, i.e. murder, it is done very tastefully. No gore, no overt violence. The book is really rather spiritual. I am not sure whether the author is Native American. Still, if not, he did his research at least.

I'd recommend this book to the younger teens or pre-teens.
