What age is this series appropriate for?  My little reader is 12 but reads at a 9th grade level!  She has seen the movies - I was wondering if the books would be appropriate.

Twilight is all about lust and passion denied.  Very sexual, although virginal.  It really depends on the 12 year old.  But I'd say no.  And if they read it,  you really need to have a talk about equality in relationships.  Something about how you hope that her relationships with boys are about partnerships and (at 12) friendships.  Bella was a doormat.  Not a very good role model.  And no actual teenage boy would ever act like Edward.  (A boy saying no to sex?  Okay, some do.)

There are books about vamps/supernatural that are aimed at younger readers.  Dead is the New Black and Shiver (wolves) are recent ones.  Blood and Chocolate and the books by Vivian Vande Velde are ones that have been around.

Face it, vamps and werewolves are a way to talk about sex without really talking about it.
