OK, I know things happen in life that prevent people from mailing books, but two in one day sent me over the edge.  I had two auto-request wish list requests granted on October 30.  Both "senders" accepted the requests and allowed themselves the longest possible time to mail their book.  There is nothing wrong with that, I do it too -- but I then actually mail the books!  Both of these senders didn't mark the books mailed, so a week after my wishes were granted, I'm back on the wish lists again.  I cannot even take solace that I'm weeding out iinactive members; these members both posted books a week ago.

Thanks, I feel better now.

I ordered a book my daughter really, really wanted. There were a few copies in the system, I want to say 9 but I can't remember exactly. Well while my request was sitting there and timing out-all the other copies were ordered and now there's a WL for the book. It put me at #1 but I'm still annoyed.

It's irritating isn't it?

Hang in there. You'll get the books eventually................

That has happened to me so many times -- multiple copies in the system and then while my request sits there waiting to be accepted and then mailed, all the other copies are snatched up and one of my precious wishlist spots is used up!!! Makes steam come out of my ears! I know stuff happens, but if you can't fulfill your part of the bargain (ie, accepting and then mailing in a timely manner), don't accept my request and let me go elsewhere while I can still get the book!

Thanks for commiserating.  I truly don't understand why someone would post a WL book -- especially one on auto-request -- and then not follow through and mail it.  What was the point of posting it?

But I do know that I will eventually get the books, and I have quite a TBR backlog to work on in the meantime.

I've had that happen too and it's so frustrating.  I ordered one recently that had 22 copies in the system.  I finally got a copy from the third person in line.  The first one never accepted and the second one never mailed it.

On the other side of things, a few months ago I picked up a book off the library sale cart that had 4 wishers,  I posted it and the first person in line never responded.  In the time it took for that offer to time out the other 3 wishers got copies.  It went on my bookshelf and I finally mailed it to somebody a month or so later.

Ardith, did they actually say they couldn't mail or did they just not mark mailed?  Maybe you'll be lucky and one of them mailed and just forgot to mark it!

I've had this happen also its very upsetting,  Your hopes are up your book is comming then in like a day or so your dreams are dashed. LOL.  Only to be sent back to the wish list, for god knows how long.  If your lucky a couple of days if not weeks or maybe months.  Its not fun, but what can you do.

I know exactly how disappointing this can be, Ardith, and I feel bad that this happened you.  I had a similar problem on SwapADvd - I was #1 on a wishlist for almost a year, and was SO psyched when someone posted the dvd (set).  On the last possible send-day, I got an email saying they couldn't send it.  So now I've been on the wishlist for almost 2 years.

Fortunately, both the books that I was wishing for were quickly reposted again.  I'd taken them off auto-request, just in case I received a PM from the original senders (but I didn't).  So now I've accepted both offers and am optimistic that these books will actually get mailed.

I've had this happen, too. I once got a string of system time-outs because the senders took too long to accept my request or mail out the book. I've also had a wishlist book get lost in the mail. That was very disappointing, but at least PBS puts us back at the front of the list.

Sometimes unpleasant things happen in groups. It's weird.
