As a wanna be sailor, I was fascinated by the detail of this book. I cannot ever imagine myself in that situation and know that I would not be able to tolerate it. Our 21st century sensibilities cannot even fathom the hardship that was endured on the voyage. Months without washing my hair? Horrors! I was glad to have the graphics of the boats in the back even though they were a little hard to read. I also had to get out a map of California to see the coastal areas he was referring to.

Just sbsolutely fascinating.

A powerful story of sailing's joys and hardships in the early 1800s.

This is an interesting and informative book. It goes into lots of detail about sailors lives, much of which is mundane. It is not a book to read for excitement, though there is some included. It is more a book to be read for information about the time period covered in the book and the lives of the people who lived them.
