The post office has printed holiday shipping deadlines on its website.  Media Mail isn't listed--there are no promises there.  However, for folks mailing out their Christmas packages, I thought I'd post the dates:

Domestic Mail
Domestic Mail Class/Product Cut Off Date
First Class Mail  Dec-21
Priority Mail Dec-21
Express Mail* Dec-23
Parcel Post Dec-16
DBMC Drop Ship Dec-19
DDU Drop Ship Dec-23

I mailed some books o a member on Dec 10, Media Mail and they arived yesterday :)

But some other books have been in transit to members since November

I wouldn't expect anything mailed from now on via Media Mail to get there before Christmas Day

I just mailed my Christmas boxes parcel post today so I'm glad they should arrive on time (did the delivery confirmation thing too so I can track them).  The post office was a mad house with very long lines, and my 3-year-old started yelling and then laid himself down on that dirty floor.  I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me on the spot.  Luckily my 6-year-old distracted him while I got the boxes mailed and we shouldn't have to go back this month.  I don't think any of us could handle it!

Oh, Brandy--I hope you survived today. :) I mailed my four Christmas packages this afternoon, and the line was tremendous. I took the opportunity to renew my relationship with the Automated Postal Center. Margaret--wouldn't it be nice if Post Offices opened a play area during the busy Christmas season? ;)

Man I love having a teeny tiny post office. Almost never a line, even this time of year. The only downside is if I am there at the same time or shortly after a fisherman comes in straight off the boat. That smell lingers!

I am heading up to Seattle next week, hopefully I can avoid the post office while I am up there, I don't even want to think about how awful those lines will be.

There may be some delays in mail delivery for anything coming from or going to the northeastern part of the country due to the big snowstorm this weekend.  I heard on the news that some major airports will be closed and they mentioned holiday mail getting delayed because of the storm.

Uggh Priority Mail has been super hit and miss lately. I went with these deadlines and accepted orders from my online business through Sunday.

But following the orders I have shipped the past few weeks, they are all over the place, and most don't have anything to do with the east coast. Some of my packages made it across the country in 3 days, but the presents we sent to the grandparents just a few hours away took 4 days. Sending stuff to California is usually 2 days, 3 days max, and I have something in transit that is now on day 6!

I had to email everyone who ordered last minute and tell them that there was a decent chance that they will not get their package in time.

Here are some examples:

WA to CA - 6 days

WA to CA - 4 days

WA to OK - 2 days

WA to NY - 2 days

WA to VI - 8 days (USPS website said it should be 3, but the buyer said 8 days is much better than normal)

WA to PA - 2 days

WA to CA - 3 days

WA to WA - 4 days

WA to FL - 2 days

i used usps.com to print priority mail labels, and dropped two packages in the mailbox at the PO on saturday here in CA.  both were delivered today - one to Michigan, and the other to Utah - even though when i printed the labels it was telling me to use express mail to get them there on time.  yay!

unfortunately, the boxes were identical and i put the labels on the wrong boxes.  *thunk*  my sister and sis-in-law now both have to go to the post office and mail the packages to each other.  my nephew's bday present was already late, and now my niece's Christmas presents will also be late.  fortunately they're all young enough that getting to open presents late is probably cool.  ;)
