Every day, I click on the details of the books I've mailed to see where they are, what kind of routes they're taking to their destinations, etc. Lately, though, once I click mailed, nothing ever appears under details except the DC number. I know the books are getting where I'm sending them because people are marking them received, but I find it interesting to see what kind of route a book takes to get to the receiver and how long it stays at each site where it's been scanned. Anyone have any ideas why USPS is not scanning DC? |

There is a problem with the Printable Postage when the post office made a switch. http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=225816 |

In addition to the PBS / Encidia printable postage problem, please realize that the PO is not obligated to scan en route, only at delivery. |

USPS has cut back on enroute scans. |

I take my books to the PO to mail, and all are getting scanned. However, books being sent to me are not showing any scanning at all. Pat |

Pat - that is probably because you are using PBS-DC only and the ones in route to you are prabably printed postage. The DC-only seem to be ok, it is just the potage printed labels having issues. |

My last two books were marked received without even the delivery scan. The two before that at least were scanned delivered. I hope the problems with the printable postage is fixed soon. |

I use PBS printed postage and tracking is not being updated through the PBS website. However when I copy the tracking number and paste it into the USPS site directly I can see the books movement which makes me happy. |

Just got a book where sender used DC and there was NO scan at delivery. Just shows first scan as accepted into PO system. I was surprised when it arrived, I assumed it got stuck in the snowplow!! |

They're definitely cutting back, drastically so, from what I've seen. A couple months or so ago, regardless of whether I used the APC or went to the counter, I could count on the Acceptance scan to happen at my local PO, and within four days (give or take a day or two), I could count on at least one more scan in Bell, CA (or somewhere else fairly close), prior to the Delivery scan at the destination. Now, I can't even count on either of those scans. I can guarantee the Acceptance scan, if I go to the PO counter, but the line is most often long, while the APC usually has none. Edited for typos and to add that I hope at least the issue of my local PO skipping scanning some DCs as Accepted is just a temporary issue due to the holidays leaving them so busy. Otherwise, having proof of mailing for various things will be hard without waiting in line for a long time. Last Edited on: 1/13/11 2:44 AM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

Tiffany - I think the lack of acceptance on packages where postage is not bought at the counter is permanent. Somewhere in the discussions about the changes the USPS made (along with these changes to the DC for prepaid postage) is that their system will not longer be capable of scanning those prepaid eDCs. I am actually suprised you ever got acceptance scans when you didn't go to the counter to buy the eDC, that is very rare. |

I never buy postage at the counter, but I have been using eDC and they get scanned regularly. There has been a stretch lately where they haven't been getting scanned as quickly as normal. But now that the xmas rush is over, they seem to be getting scanned again. I was just beginning to think that it wasn't worth paying for DC. But now it seems to be working again. |

I checked the USPS website a few minutes ago to see if there had been any progress made on PBS DC and found that books both coming to me and mailed by me are now showing up and I can again follow their progress through the mail system! But only on the USPS website. PBS details are still not showing any info - maybe that'll be cleared up soon, too. |

I recently got this response from my feedback regarding this issue:
Dear Jennifer,

I have two packages of books that I mailed to different addresses on 1/5/2011 using PBS Postage. When I enter the tracking # for these books in the USPS website, I get a message stating "There is no record of this item." I've mailed books since then using PBS Postage and although no details show up here at PBS, when I enter the tracking # for the books in the USPS system, these books do show as being scanned an en-route to where I sent them. The first detail about these books was that "Electronic Shipping Info Received". I'm hoping that the books I shipped on 1/5/2011 actually make it to where they are supposed to go and that there wasn't something even more wrong with the postage on those books that would cause the USPS to reject the books! I'll feel a lot better when those books have been marked received by the recipient. |

I talked to the clerk at my PO today and they are aware of the problem with the DC#'s that start with 94 and she told me it is an Endicia problem. |

Have the PO and PBS finally fixed this problem? I use PBS postage and DC and when I checked the details this morning I saw that the five books I mailed out on Friday have all been scanned at least once. (Although, two books that were mailed a couple of weeks ago are still showing no scans at all!) |
