I'm new too, so it's best to wait for word from a seasoned member, but as far as I am aware, it is against site guidelines to just "swap".

I believe you have to be a member of Box of Books in order to do deals such as that. :( Sorry....

ETA: Don't know if this will come through correctly, but I found this in the help center. . Hope it helps. I hope your books move very quickly for you and that you get lots of credits (and books!) very soon.

Can we swap books for books directly with other members on this site?

Yes, but only if you both subscribe to Box-O-Books.

  • "Creditless" swaps are permitted ONLY between two Boxers.
  • Using the PBS site to conduct an under-the-table book-for-book swap without using credits would be in direct violation of PBS policy, and would put both members' PBS accounts in jeopardy.

Why is this?

  • We have worked very hard on this site, and it has cost us (and continues to cost us) a great deal of money. The Box-O-Books service is one of the few sources of income the site has generated to offset our financial losses, and we are still deeply in the red. Without some financial support we will not be able to continue the club. We are trying to keep the site free for our members, and Box-O-Books was one innovation intended to help us do so.
  • PBS relies greatly on the "honor" system among our members. We are pleased to say that the majority of PBSers are honest and above-board; if that were not so, the club could not continue.
  • We hope that the rule makes sense to you, and that you understand that we are not being unfair or greedy. It is simply that if enough members did this, we would have to close down the club

Ya you do have to be a Box o Books member to do that. I have been a BOB member since March and I really like it--almost all the swaps I've done went good. I would recommend it.

John, you're right. No trades or swaps unless you're a boxer. Books must be exchanged for credits only.

I think I am going to have to check into that Box of Books myself.. As soon as I can get the wife and kids..ahem.. and myself... to part with some more books. Has to be cheaper than cha-chinging in the credit kiosk every single day. lol.

Boxing is GREAT!!!  I have done many swaps with people of just one book to one book.  (Some only want to do larger swaps but I've had pretty good luck with small ones.)   If you are looking for a specific book, you can't always find it, but still, it's worth the small investment to have the opportunity to swap without using credits.

Also if it helps support this wonderful site that many of us are completely dependent on I say go for it :-)

John: Instead of the kiosk check out other members in the BB.  There are quite a few of us who sell credits for noticably less than the kiosk!

Even if you swap through credit system, You will only get the book as fast as the other person can mail it. Usually the delays are caused by lack of finances to ship. you must communicate wit the person you swap with. good luck!.....................ps. I havent found much on your shelf but you are welcome to check out mine...

When I moved down here I had to leave a big box of books in Ohio. So most of the books I do have are my "keepers". I havent even read a good book since I read New Moon and that was 2 months ago.

But thanks for teh advice and everything....

PS I mailed out two books the other day and just got them back in the mail..something about security risks and I have to take them to the post office...geez!

I'm really sorry to hear that. That is strange with the mail, I wonder what would cause them to send them back with that marking.

Well, I hope your luck changes very soon. When I first started on here (a few weeks ago, lol) I noticed that all the books I had had numerous copies on the system, so I ran some wish lists, viewed the top rated WL books and went on a hunt around our local bookstores and such and found some great deals on some to post. Then I used those credits to order books more to the wifes likings, then I offered a deal on the forums, because I figuired a few credits now was better than no credits waiting in very long line for books to go out.. That seemed to help ...

And then of course, I have resorted to buying credits through the kiosk (although I am not sure this was a good idea, lol, I am going broke in a credit happy kiosk).

Anyways, I was just trying to pass on things that worked for me.

And while I have a long wait for books to come in that I ordered for her, her and I both know they are on their way and that is half the fun! And they do start trickling in faster than you think, some seem to get to us really quick and it is a very nice surprise. :) Anyways I am rambling, but best of luck and I hope you find some books you like soon.

ETA: I am with you on the lack of books to post thing though. Before this site was recommended to us by my sister in law we were just always donating all of our books to FOL and Goodwill. Boy if I had only known about this site before all those books given away, I could have a very large bookshelf.  Ah well. I will blame my Sister In Law, for keeping this a secret for so long! lol

Thank you all for BoB info, checking into it, think it sounds like a great idea.

If you use stamps and the books are over 13 oz you must mail them in the post office. If you use the PBS postage you can wrap the book and just drop them in the mailbox.
