Long story, brace yourselves:

A wish-listed book about Mount Everest was offered to me and I eagerly accepted it. As I usually do, I checked out the sender's account and saw that it was a new member who had a bookshelf full of Mount Everest books. I PM'ed her, marveling over her large Everest collection. She told me she would be posting more the next day if I wanted to see what she posted. She did post more books the following day, one of which I requested off her shelf. She PM'ed me to tell me she also had an hour long Everest CD that she couldn't post on the site (no ISBN I guess? She never really said why; just that she couldn't figure out how to post it) and that I could have it as a freebie if I wanted it, which I accepted.

The next day, she printed the wrapper and, the day after that, she mailed it.

The package arrived today but it only had one book inside it, the second one I selected off her shelf. My Wish-Listed book and the CD are not there. The book's in great condition, I have no problem with it. But the other stuff is missing. And not 'the Post Office stole it' missing; I'm certain this is a 'sender did not mail it' missing. Plus, I noticed a few days ago when I went to look over his bookshelf again, her account has been suspended.

Since I requested the books a day apart, even though she didn't print the wrapper until after I had requested both books, is it possible he might have mailed the two books and CD seperately? Should I give it a day or two to see if it shows up? Or, since her account has been cancelled, should I just assume the worse and mark it as not having it shown up with the other book? And even if the missing book shows up, can I still mark one of the transactions as a RWAP if the freebie CD is missing?

PS - I finally understand what other members mean about going a long time without any problems and then getting a ton all at once. This is my second problem swap in this past week after going for months without any issues.

UPDATE - 9/15

The missing Wish List book and the promised freebie CD (which it turns out is a DVD, no wonder she couldn't figure out how to post it here, though I just checked SwapaDVD and don't see a listing for it there either) arrived today! Looks like she did wrap and send them seperately. They went out the same day; just one arrived a day behind the other, for some reason. The book's in excellent condition and the DVD was wrapped in bubble wrap within the packaging. Again, I'm shocked that a new member who deliberately stirred up trouble in that thread could be such a nice sender, taking excellent care in wrapping my books and sending the freebie DVD as promised.

Well, for what it's worth, I'm marking them as recieved, even if she'll never get the credits, and I'll send her a kind PM thanking her for sharing her Everest collection with me.

By any chance was it the account of a Tommie K. (monkeyfur) ?

SHE was suspended after some nastiness.

The thread starts here: http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=215340&l=25&ls=0 and really starts going about 4 or 5 pages in.

I ask because before the account was suspended I noticed a number of Mountain Climbing, nature type books on her shelf.

You should only mark the book you got as received. If the other doesn't show up, don't mark it received. It will go lost and you can get your credit back.

I don't think you can mark the one you received as RWAP because of the freebie cd that's missing. I think you just have to let it go since it was only a freebie and not something you paid a credit for. It's like when you do a deal, unless the book you actually ordered has a problem, I don't think you can mark it RWAP because the freebies are unpostable or missing.

Rob > You're right! Tommie was the sender. Wow, she seemed so nice in her PMs with me.

I remember that thread. I wonder if the OP went out with the "trash"?

Wow, I'm surprised she really sent out a book. There are some that think she just used her 2 free credits and ran for the hills. Or Mount Everest.

Well, maybe she just sent the other book seperately. Unfortunately, you can't do anything if the promised freebie doesn't show up.

Someone just resurrected the thread.  She basically posted that the only books availalbe on PBS were trash.  Not like "smut" trash but books that no one would ever want.

I'm glad you are only out the free cd, as the WL book will either arrive separately or go lost and you'll get your credit back. I've often seen that people looking only for specialized or rare books don't remain members for the long term.

Jodi > Yeah, that's true. And I'll go back to my place in line in the WL if/when it goes lost, right? Back to the front, I guess?

I've never done a deal before or asked for a freebie and the very few times I've ordered two books off the same shelf, they arrived with no trouble. But I should just let the one go lost then? I'm really hoping that she mailed them in two seperate packages but, seeing as the wrapper was printed at the same time, I have a feeling I might not be getting that Wish List book. Well, at least the one book she sent me is a keeper. And I figured there wasn't anything I could do about the freebie going missing.

And it's so weird to see that thread where she stirred up trouble when her PMs so me were so nice. Hmm, I wonder why she felt the need to do that if she was going to be an active member, seeing as she sent me at least one of the two books I asked for.

The mystery of Tommie continues...

See my first post for the update in the status of the missing book and CD.

Yay your book & freebie arrived Erin!  Good choice with your response, maybe she can get her account reopened with a good sending record and a more site friendly attitude.

With the correct DVD ID numbers, it's possible that freebie could have been pulled into the Swap a DVD system where it's probablay blocked here on the PBS site?
