What an odd little play! The title character personifies regret, longing, and bitterness. I felt sad for him, but he frustrated me with his inaction. He was a meaner version of Billy Pilgrim from _Slaughterhouse 5_.

It must be the Russians, but there was a lot of drinking going on in this one - and lots of bitter words when drunk. Vanya's drunken comments cracked me up. Above all else, his vocal bitterness was funny.
