Perhaps somewhere en route it got terribly smudged. You may want to ask the requestor to contact that post office to see if they can track down the book meant for him/her. They may need to pick it up themselves if the postoffice workers can't read the address properly.

if  you used an ink jet printer they sometims will smudge, blur if it has contact with moisture.  I would contact USPS at the 800# - let them know they may be able to fix the problem if it is messed up label.

PM the person you sent it out to. It sounds like they moved away from that address. If you do not get a response after a reasonable time, contact PBS.

Was it a WL book? I had one recently that must have been on autorequest. I got it back undeliverable as addressed. PBS returned the credit to my account. I am guessing it was an account that someone set up and forgot.

Since you carefully covered the address, it's unlikely to have been damaged beyond reading (although I did receive one that had been so wet the water seeped under the tape and smeared anyway...but USPS got it to me regardless (no idea how).

So, maybe you should first contact the receiver and see if there is an error in her address, or if she is having difficulties with her post office.  Can you tell when the member logged into PBS last?

Oh my!!!!! The EXACT same thing just happened to me today, and hasn't happened since becoming a member! I. too, received a book mailed with the club printout and DC. I mailed it  20 July. It also was returned with the exact same words as quoted in the letter that started this strand. I have contacted TPTB to see if they will check to see if their address for the man is correct. The yellow slip on my envelope also says "unable to forward." I looked at the recipient's acct. and he looks to be quite active.

I took it to the PO - one of the ones slated for closure where one can get almost instant help and lots of smiles - and the worker told me that occassionally stamps will only have lines drawn through them as this one did, so there was no cancellation or post mark of any kind. That made me suspicious. The worker was very kind, and offered to hand cancell the stamps and "fix" it so it could be resent without cost to me. I told him I'd rather wait until the club contacts me - that will be a long time - so that I know the address is correct. I also PMed the recipient when I noticed that for over a week the mail truck was in IL. So far I've heard nothing from him from the 1st PM or today.

This is strange!!!! And 2 so close together with the same circumstances! Shades of Twilight Zone!

I forgot to say that evrything on the address label, his and mine was clear, no smudges. I always place a small piece over mine and the recievers so that there would be no problems with the package getting wet, etc.

I just received a very helpful answer from TPTB. That was very prompt! They will be doing all they can from their end, as I have from mine. Now we just have to wait. Hopefully this will be cleared soon!   M'ann
