Excellent, fast-paced read. Lots of action and well-drawn characterization. Very reminiscent of the Patrick O'Brien Aubreyad. Here's hoping this will be the first of a series.

I was skeptical when I first bought this book. I almost put it back in the ben. As I was reading it the ship terms, some words used and the idioms were a halting point. But it truly was a good story. I enjoyed it very much.

All too often, when reading the first novel of a series of books about a hero in the British Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, you see words on the cover stating that this series is the successor to Horatio Hornblower, or words to that effect. And all too often, they are untrue. Usually, after reading either the first or second of that series, I abandon it with disappointment.

Not so with this series, beginning with "Under Enemy Colors." I almost literally could not put the book down. The hero, Lieutenant Charles Hayden is a delightful character, as are many of the men who serve with him. All the characters are well-fleshed out and the plots and sub-plots are intriguing.

I see only one problem. The second book in the series is not posted here and there are five people on the WL ahead of me.
