An earnest book, available on the branch library sale shelf for two bits (ex-library, with usual markings, otherwise AF in AFDJ protected by a Brodart-style plastic cover) today 1 October 2019. No wishes from PBS comrades, so I will leave it for someone else to buy. It seems new but there is a receipt inside showing it circulated in 2002. Sample:
"Violence is a recurring theme in Lorna Dee Cervantes's poetry. Sexual and domestic violence are paired in 'For Virginia Chavez,' in which the image of 'kicks in your belly' refers both to her violent E and to her unborn child (Emplumada, 16, 1.41). In 'Beneath the Shadow of the Freeway' the image of the child's fear as the unsteady drunken footsteps stop outside her bedroom door links
sexual domestic violence." Etc., etc. as she discusses each cheerful poem....
