I've made some bad buys at yard sales over the last few years. There are also some books that just didn't get treated well  and now have this list of unpostables. What's the best way to do a deal that anyone can get one of these books by ordering a book from my shelf?

Children?s
Animorphs: The Visitor, excessive wear on cover
Animorphs: The Secret: wonky wavy pages at back of book, author Applegate
Danger.com@7//most wanted; spots inside front cover, author, Cray
The Mystery of the Missing Treasure; dark inside covers, Janet Lorimer
Guts, Gary Paulsen ? highlighting

Adults:
On a Pale Horse, piers anthony, water stained edge
Modern aircraft marking, nonfiction, 1992, missing a fly page
Yuletide peril, Irene Brand. List written on quote page
The Elfstones of Shanara, Terry Brooks, spine separating
The Women in His Life, Barbara Taylor Bradford, cover torn, piece missing
D is for Deadbeat, Sue Grafton, stain inside front cover
The Deeds of the Disturber, Elizabeth Peters, water stain on edge
Vows, LyVryle Spencer, spot on page
The Dragonbone Chair, Tad Williams, torn cover, piece missing
Paratime, H. Bean Piper, small water stain on back near spine, no pages affected, but old, old copy

I thought I could find a home for them in the book bazaar but the damaged book topic is for raok and I need to generate some credits.

You could put them in your Signature Line, so the forum readers could see them.

You could put them in your Bookshelf header so any one checking there could see them.

And you could make a post in the Book Bazaar announcing them. There is a Red Sticky Post at the top of the Book Bazaar to give you the info about posting in there.

It's tough with non WL unpostables unless they are uncommon and you offer a good deal, because the people who frequent the bazzar can usually find good deals on postable copies of commonly posted books.  You can offer an unpostable deal in your signature, with a link to the books you are offering and make a post in the bazzar. You can give the option of a free book with every order and maybe a deal if someone just wants a bunch of your unpostables. It may be slow going though.

If you want to trade damaged books for other damaged books you haven't read you can head over to the game forum and try the Damaged Books Virtual Box.

Lenore--

I've had a number of folks order books from my shelf to get the unpostables I list in my forums signature.  Also, I'd suggest adding a list of the unpostables on offer to your profile and putting a brief note in the "public header" section of your bookshelf that you have unpostables to offer as well as any deals you might be open to.

I also found it helpful, when listing the unpostables on my profile, to link to the PBS page of that specific edition (ISBN) and provide a brief description of why the book is unpostable.  An extra step, yes, but sometimes it can help encourage folks to order books if they know exactly what they are getting.

Cheers,

Catt

Catt, what's the trick of capturing the book title as a link to the pbs listing for that book?

Lenore, all you have to do is copy and paste a blue link to include it in your message (don't know why this is all bold and italics, edited multiple times for formatting and all).  I searched for a random title, and then copied the blue linked title from the search results page and it worked great (though probably made for the change in my font lol)

Jimi's trick works [so nice to see you again here, Jimi!] and is probably the easiest method.  I am happy to share mine if you wish it.  Just lemme know

Cheers,

Catt

Jim, to get rid of the formatting in your post, not that it really matters now, but infor for future reference, While in the edit mode of your post, at the end of the second row of buttons, there is one that says "SOURCE"

Click that button, and all the formatting is visible within your post. You don't have to know how to do anyof if, if all you are wanting to do is to make your post plain vanilla wrapper text.

Simply look at the text with the Source on, and remove anything and including text between <lesser than and > greater than. Remove the symbols, and all the text inbetween them.  Then click the Source button again and see if all your formatting is back to normal, and you can go ahead and do whatever you wanted to do with your post. This will remove all your links, but you can now put them back in and know that the rest of the post is good :)
