From back cover: They agreed to disagree. Lovely, quick-tempered Althea Rackham and the handsome, haughty Lord Soames agreed on just one thing: they were not meant for each other! This proud pair were engaged buy a few days before their clash of wits and wills set off sparks that sent their marriage plans up in smoke. Althea announced she was quite content to remain single for life. Lord Soames declared he could not care less whom he wed in order to breed a successor to his title. Then Althea's ruthlessly ambitious niece Lucy came husband hunting in the London marriage mart--and Althea found herself fighting this ravishing rival for a love she refused to admit even to herself.

Fantastical, hard to believe plot. The characters are not well-drawn. ABout a third of the book is gone before the hero/heroine even start to have serious conversation, and those conversations are few and far between. Despite a two year rift in their relationship, and declaring she won't have him, she basically falls back in love with him on their first meeting. Just not that good.

I like Vanessa Gray's books becasue they have a wider scope than merely hero/heroine scenes. This one is no exception. The focus is on her heroines and one gets to know them quite well. They don't fit the current popular pattern, and I think that's why I like them.

Nice Walter Popp cover on this one.
