But one of them was former Confederate soldier Cole Parker and he swore to protect this spirited woman who'd unexpectedly touched his heart. Now to win her love Cole would follow Addy to Central City, a mining boomtown filled with dreamer, desperadoes, and the rich and powerful men who would court Addy. Widowed Addy Kane was abducted during a bank robbery in Unionville, Illinois. A member of the bank bandits, shot during the robbery, followed the robbers back to their hole. There he shot it out with the leader, who wanted to abuse Addy.

Nick Coleman/Cole Parker and Addy meet again and again over Addy's trip to Colorado to take a teaching post. Neither are ready for love or marriage, but they can't shake the inevitability of their meetings.

This is a great story that won't let go until the last page.
