This book lives up to it's name. It's full of facts and quotes of some of the stupidest things that American's have done and said, from Politicians to the person next door. Entertaining but yet also disturbing. Disturbing in the fact that there are actually people like this running around this country.

If you've ever wondered how stupid people really can be, all you have to do is pick up a copy of this book!

It's almost sad that it's so funny, but in the end the humor is well worth it.

Fun, quick read, full of laugh-out-loud and what-were-they-thinking? moments.

I obtained this for the old soldiers and sailors' home and it is sure to lighten someone's long, long day. It can be opened anywhere and several short, interesting anecdotes will appear. It is loosely organized by subjects. For example, The Idiot Next Door chapter includes entries on 'Stupid Moments in Defecation' followed by 'Stupid American Toilet Problems.'
This reminds me that the column 'The Straight Dope' ceased publication this year. There is not much left of the 1960s underground press. The LA Weekly had almost no staffers and canned Jill Stewart, the asst. editor, who carried them in recent years. There is little left besides the music and restaurant reviews. Ms. Stewart years ago canned the term 'Dance of the Lemons' for the way LAUSD would transfer really bad teachers to another school (maybe to your school!)....
No index, illustrations. There is a short introduction that notes "American stupidity is as unique as the U.S.A. itself--a rich and uncategorizable hodgepodge, a stew...a melting pot as Justice Potter Stewart once said about obscenity." This is as scholarly as this book gets....
