Slapstick sword and sorcery. Good fun.

From back cover: When the foreigners came along and all but abducted Sterren from his homeland of Ethshar, they claimed he should consider it good news. Sterren, it seemed, was the hereditary Ninth Warlord of the small southern kingdom of Semma, with all the privileges that accompanied the noble title. But before he could enjoy any of it, he would have to deal with the bad news; his duty as Warlord was to fight off the two other kingdoms-- the two LARGER and STRONGER kingdoms-- that were preparing to invade Semma right now.
The problem was, Sterren wasn't qualified to command much of anything, never mind Semma's army. If he lost, the first thing likely to be forfeit was his life. And even if he won-- would his familiar life in Ethshar still be gone forever? For deep in the south lay secrets of magic not even Sterren could imagine.
