I tried...I REALLY tried to love it...There is so much here to work with but I just couldn't love it...If it had been chronological then, perhaps, it would have been more seamless but the jumping back in time, to the present, to the future, back in time, to the future, to the present...I am seasick...I ADORE Scratch...He is a great devil...He's heartbroken and mad at God because God stole his girlfriend...That would make anybody mad cause I guess God would be stiff competition!!! The use by Michael Poore of historical figures throughout the book made me wish for a book with those stories only...Betting with Franklin and riding into battle with Washington...Mr. Poore's wit is polished and the book is well researched...
What I was left with when I finished this novel was a STRONG desire to go to the crossroads...I would love to see how my life would change once meeting Scratch...This is a GREAT debut novel but, as I have stated before, my only real gripe is the jumping around throughout time...I promise that you will enjoy it!!! I'm not in any way saying that the book sucks folks...I'm just a fan of things that are put in order so that's the only real gripe I have...Other than that it's an amazing brain vacation!!! It's a fun, light, and imaginative read and I will probably re-read it in the future...Only this time I will put it chronologically and read it not from front to back...
In conclusion, would I recommend it??? You bet your sweet bippy...Any fan of fantasy (or is this reality mwahahahahaha) will love this fresh spin on the most notorious character in all of fiction...The devil, Satan, Beelzebub, John Scratch...Whatever the hell you call him...Just don't call him late for dinner...GO BUY THIS BOOK!!! Support an up and coming author!!! Look into my eyes...You will get this book...
Have a great day!!!
