I don't know if you have a bank or credit card program that gives you points towards a free giftcard but I find that's been a great saver for me.  I use my bank account every few months like I normally would and I get points for free transactions and then every few months I trade them in for a gift card for a restaurant or store that I'd use otherwise have to pay for items at.

I also do a online points program and through responding to their emails, surveys and using their portal for online shopping I get points towards gift cards.  I've been doing that one for years and they just add up so quick.  If you want some more info drop me a PM and I can send you an invite.

The other thing I do is one of those online survey programs except there I can turn the points in for cash.  There's prize options too but I have enough junk in my house and an extra $10 or $20 can be useful.  Again let me know if you want some more info and I can email you an invite

I like my Discover card. I can take my points in either cash or gift cards.  I've been paying for my perscriptions (CVS) for about a year that way.  When we bought the house I took some in Bed Bath & Beyond gift cards.  Prior to that (and possibly again, other than CVS) I just applied it to my credit card bill.

It is only worth it if you are paying off the bill every month--otherwise the interest will far outstrip the value of the points.
