I might be thinking of a different site, but did PBS used to offer a certain number of points for putting books into your inventory? The reason I ask is that I had a rather large inventory, then I moved and I can't find some of my inventory in storage, so I decided to remove my inventory and just re-add the books I have access to, but I seem to have a lot fewer points than I had before I deleted my inventory and adding books back in doesn't seem to give me any more points. What's going on? |

They used to give 3 credits to you when you listed 10 books (I think). Now they give you 2. You have to earn the others by mailing out books. Inventory shouldn't matter at all. You can check your credit history on the main page. It has a clickable link that is named Credit Registry. |

Book mooch gives you credit when you post books |

Emily, deleting books from your shelf won't have any effect on your credits (bookmooch does that, though). |

So, then PBS does *not* give one any points for listing inventory? I know Jennifer says they do, but I have added 53 books back in now, and my points value is still the same as when I deleted the books. So, I should have 33 points if it's 2 points per 10 books listed. Do they show up later? I guess I don't really mind, I'm just wondering how it's supposed to work. Thanks for all your answers! |

No its only 2 points for the first 10 books and after that you only earn points only when you mail books out. |

As Aimee said - the freebie points are ONLY given the first time you post 10 books (used to be 8 books, now it's 10). You don't get additional free points beyond that, no matter how many books you post. The points are given as an incentive to join PBS. |

As a few others have pointed out. BookMooch gives points for adding to your inventory - - and likewise takes the points away if you remove books. However - it's only 0.1 per book, so 1 point for every 10 you list. eta: It's a shame you chose to delete all the books and re-enter them. That moves your books to the back of the line in the system. :( Last Edited on: 1/24/08 1:25 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

The back of the line? What do you mean? Also, it was just too daunting to think about trying to compare what I had in crates (more than 300 books) to my inventory. I suppose there was a better way, I just couldn't think of one.

Since you deleted your books you are now at the back of the FIFO (first in first out) line. The site works on a first come first served basis. Your book will be the last in line when someone is ordering for it if you repost it now. More on FIFO from the HC its the first link. http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/search.php?terms=FIFO ETA sorry my link went missing. Last Edited on: 1/24/08 2:07 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

PBS operates on a FIFO system - first in, first out - or first book listed gets the first request. You relisted all your books. They now show up with January 2008 posting dates. So everyone who posted those books before January is ahead of you in line. For example - Uh Oh by Robert Fulghum currently has 40 copies in the system. You are probably #40, or close to it. My guess is you were closer to the front of the line before you deleted & re-entered that title. In other words, it will take longer for some of your books to be requested. :( |

I see. I thought the FIFO thing was just for when you were waiting for something on your wishlist. Of course, it works the other way, too. Thanks for all your help! |
