I am having a lot of problems with the website with pages stalling. Almost every page I go to stalls and sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries to do one simple thing, like add a book to my wish list.

I have been told to use Firefox, but since I am on dial-up it is not really feasible at this time to attempt to download a program like Firefox.

This didn't used to be a problem in the past. Occasionally the page would stall but now it stalls almost every time.

Personally, I dislike Firefox a LOT.  It always makes my computer run very slow.  I'm using XP and IE and have no page stalling problems at all.   Maybe you need to do a cookie clean up on your computer?? Just a thought.

I have firefox, downloaded it when I was on dial-up and it was rather quick...runs much better and with fewer bugs that XP and IE.

One of my computers is XP (the one I am using now), I switch back and forth between IE and Firefox. But in IE, PBS will eventually freeze, and I don't have that issue with Firefox.

I've run both Firefox and IE, and frankly can't tell the difference while on PBS.  IMO alot has to do with individual computers, internet connections, etc.

The cookie thing seems to help for many members.  Otherwise maybe your computer is due for a system tune-up?

Thanks for all the info. My computer probably could use a system tuneups. Good idea!

As someone who designs websites for a living, I HATE IE.  Microsoft refuses to make it completely HTML compliant and so website designers end up in having to do work-arounds to get a website to work properly in IE.

You will be much more likely to have a successful web browser experience with Firefox.

I've never had any problems with PBS and IE.  In fact, my Firefox browser crashes at least once every other day, but no complaints for IE.

I would suggest clearing your cache (cookie, temp files, etc.) That usually clears up 90% of problems I've run into.

I find PBS to be super slow no matter which browser or computer I use.  My desktop is old and I expect it to run any website I go to slow.  But PBS is slow on my work computer and my laptop-both of which are fairly new and it doesnt' matter if I use IE or Firefox.   All 3 computers are hooked up to high speed internet too. I can do several things on another window and website while waiting for PBS to do what I asked it to do.
