I asked this in another thread, but I figured maybe I should make it its own thread just in case no one's looking at the other one. Plus, I'd really like an answer. I changed a book to auto-request after having been on vacation hold the last 4 days. It says I'm 1 of 2, but it also says there is a copy available to order right now if I go to the accounts page. Do I need to actually click on the "order this book" button or does it just take a little while for the system to recognize that I now have a book on auto-request? I'm thinking I'm just going to delete it from my WL and request it from the system since it still hasn't been put on my "Books I've Requested" tab and it's been long enough that any delay in the system should have already been over by now. However, I want to ask a sort of follow up question. What about the other books I have on Auto-Request? Some I didn't put on Auto-request until after I'd put my account on vacation hold (I just don't want any orders right now, I'm not really going away) so should I come off vacation hold and then reset it so that those books will officially be auto-request? I'm worried I'll be bypassed for some of the other books I'm getting close to number 1 on the WL for since Auto-request isn't working on this one book. |

Nobody here knows for sure. You'd have to ask the PBS Team since they are the ones who can look at the actual times when everything happened; but my guess is - your shelf was on vacation hold and this book wasn't on auto-request - the book was posted - when you changed the setting on this book to auto-request, the system didn't check to see if the book was already available and place the order. Or else you had no credits at that time, and when you got a credit there was no check done then to see if a previously auto-requested book was now available. (That kind of makes sense. What if there were more than one auto-requested book available when your credit came in? How would the system know which one to order for you?) This type of checking has to be programmed into the system, and probably it was just overlooked when the auto-request feature was implemented. We do know there's a check for available wish list books when you take your entire account off vacation hold. We also know there's a check done when a book is posted to see if a wisher has it on auto-request, so your auto-request books that are not available should be fine. If you want the book that's available now, then yes, you should order it. I'm not sure what you mean by "if I go to the accounts page" though. Did you mean the book details page? |

When you are on vacation hold, any changes you make, such as from non-auto to auto will NOT go into effect until you take your shelf off hold. The ones that were already on Auto will come to you just as if your shelf wasn't on hold. |

I'm not sure what you mean by "if I go to the accounts page" though. Did you mean the book details page? Oops, yes, that is what I meant. And I have more than one credit so it wasn't that I didn't have credits and then did. Thanks, Cozette. I didn't realize that, but after experiencing this with one book I figured maybe I'd have to take my account off vacation hold for the others I'd put on auto-request after placing the vacation hold the first time. |
