I understand what happens with my WL and Bookshelf when I go on vacation hold.  But what about incoming books?  What happens if I'm not home to mark them received?  I think most of the ones that I have coming to me have used PBS DC and/or postage, so they'll get credit when it is marked mailed.  But what about the one that didn't?  Should I PM the sender and let them know there might be a delay in marking it received if it arrives while I'm gone?  On the ones with DC, will I get a "black mark" from TPTB if I don't mark them received for a few days after DC says it was delivered?  I will be gone for 8 days, but I'll have internet access at least a couple of times in there, so I could manage the outgoing stuff without needing to use the vacation hold.  But I'm worried about the incoming.

If you want, it may be a good idea to PM those who have sent you books that you will be out of town and that in the interim the books that they sent may go "lost" but that you will mark them received as soon as you are able.

As far as not marking the ones received with DC, I think the same thought applies.

If you expect that you will recveive several during the time you are gone you might also consider letting the PBS team know so that any automated emails about not marking your books received will be okay.  But usually I've found that just because the DC says it's been delivered doesn't always mean it has been.  So you would probably be alright with waiting until you got home.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you are going to be gone a month. I've had books arrive while I was on vacation and just marked them received when I got home.  People will be able to see that your account is on vacation hold.  You can even put in your profile that you will be gone from x date to x date.  If any book is near to going lost you will get emails from PBS reminding you to mark them recieved if you've gotten them. But they don't require a response.

I have done as a previous poster suggested and PMd people who sent me books, letting them know I would mark it received when I returned.  The response was overwhelmingly postive - most thanked me for the heads up.
