A WL book came up for me, when I went to accept it, I got a rejction, which stated:

Unfortunately I cannot mail this book for a week or more because I am on vacation.

If you would like the book, just send a new request ( than they posted  a date for 2 weeks in the future)  Sorry for any inconvience!

Naturally, PBS put the book back on my WL, it will probably be sent by someone else before I have time to check my calendar and remember to request it from a specific vactioning member.

I thought there was a "vacation hold" process which is supposed to make a situation like this more manageable.

Am I missing something ?

'Cause making" vacation lists" and checking them all the  time to "catch"vacationing" bookshelves is NOT  logical to me.

You might want to gently remind them that there is a vacation hold feature for situations just like this, and direct them to the help docs. Sounds like they may not be aware of its existence.

You won't be able to just request the book from her again in 2 weeks since it is on your WL, you can't do anything but wait for the book to be offered to you.  She will have to repost the book when she is ready to send it.

Well, since its a WL book, that person must have just posted the book ?? How odd. Maybe she posted the book before she left and it rolled through so many people that it didn't get requested in time for her to mail it before she left. Not really anything you can do anyway. Just wait until you get an offer again from someone.

It wouldn't surprise me if what Melanie said happened.  She may not have known that if she went on hold while it was about to time out on the perosn before you that it would stop it from being offered again.

It's also possible that she didn't think to check that the book was WL and posted it right before she left (or while on vacation) not expecting it to be requested right away.  I know it seems like common sense to check but not everyone thinks about that.  I've even accidentally done it myself when posting books I bought a thrift store, posted them to start up FIFO thinking that there's no way any are WL only to find out that one was.  (I just read it quickly and mailed it out).
