I put my account on "VacationHold" (or so I thought) and went away for Christmas.  I came back to find one of my books removed from my bookshelf listing and a notice that someone had requested it  (on Dec 25th, on less) and that I had not responded in the allotted time.  I thought "Vacation Hold" was supposed to suspend my account  so that this would not happen.

Have I misunderstood?

How do I appeal this action?

Thanks,

Mary H.

You can use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page and ask what happened. Did you have your Vacation Hold go into effect on the 25th? What could have happened was an order was placed and in the 1 hr buyers remorse when you put it on Hold so it wasn't visible yet.

Not sure what you are going to appeal?? The person who requested it will have already had their order placed with someone else at this point. I am not sure if the system is capable of putting you back into the first spot in the FIFO line if it was a system glitch like they can do with Wish List problems. Is it a book with a lot of copies in the system? If not then I'd just repost the book.

Sorry you missed an order. Thankfully it was only one book.

Did you post any books right before going on hold?  Could one of them have been a WL book?

Thank you for answering, Melanie.  I'm not sure what I thought I was going to appeal either.  I guess I had this idea that it would be a black mark on my permanent record or some such thing.  I have re-listed and re-read the "Vacation Hold" procedure so things should be fine now.

Mary I had the same thing happen to me.  I found out someone had put the hold like 10 minutes before my hold was about to go on, so the book was requested. Lucky for me I still have time to respond.

I would suggest next time, put your vacation hold on the day before you are acutally going to go away, so any last minute requests will be caught by you.  Its what I plan to do when I go away for 2 weeks in January.

I usually put mine on the day before as well.  Then I don't have to worry about forgetting or trying to get a book in the mail at the last minute.  It won't be a black mark against you unless its a habitual thing that requests time out on you.  I think now if you have 2 no responses within a certain amoutn of time it'll auto hold your account.  This is to weed out the inactives and get them out of the FIFO lines and to protect those who had emergencies or just forgot to put their account on hold.  Then they don't come back to find half their books removed from their shelf and books no longer on their WL.
