If I put my bookshelf on vacation hold - do my books continue to move up through the FIFO line - or, do they remain "frozen" until I remove the hold?

If I put my bookshelf on vacation hold - how does this affect my wishlist? I will be away from home, but, still with internet acces, so would hope I would still receive wishlist offers as they come up.

Linda - Per the Help Docs:

How does the Hold affect your Bookshelf?

  • The books that are on your Bookshelf at the time the Hold goes into effect will be hidden from requests.

  • This does not include books that are involved in a Wish List Hold or an active transaction.
  • The FIFO order of each book will be preserved during the Hold; it will not "lose its place in line" to get requested.

How does the Vacation Hold affect My Wish List?

All items not set to auto-request on your Wish List will be "hidden" from the system when an account Vacation Hold is in effect.

  • If a Wish List book becomes available while an account Vacation Hold is in effect, and the Wish List book is NOT set to auto-request:
    • you will be "passed over" for that copy
    • you will retain your place on the Wish List
  • If a Wish List book becomes available while an account Vacation Hold is in effect, and the Wish List book IS set to auto-request:
    • if you have credit(s) in your account to request the book, it will be requested for you automatically, and sent to the mailing address on your account.
    • if you don't have any credits in your account, you will be passed over for that copy, and retain your place on the Wish List.

The system lets you get the WL books on auto request.  But there really isn't a way to send books to a second address.  Such as when you will be in one location for a long time.  This is easy to do with 48 hour offers, not with vacation auto request.   The options really are to either change your primary address, or to write a RC.

(Can you tell I'm thinking of staying with my Mom for several months during hospice care?)

I have a question about vacation hold too.

I changed a book to auto-request after having been on vacation hold the last 4 days. It says I'm 1 of 2, but it also says there is a copy available to order right now if I go to the accounts page. Do I need to actually click on the "order this book" button or does it just take a little while for the system to recognize that I now have a book on auto-request?
