I want to put my shelf on vacation hold, however, I have 1 book currently on wl hold.  Do I need to wait for that to be requested before I can do it?

I think so. If the current member it's on hold for doesn't accept, it will go on hold instead of rolling over. This is what I've seen said here in the forums. It's not from personal experience, so I could be wrong.

On this same topic, I'm wondering about a book I ordered. I am planning on putting my shelf on vacation hold tonight or tomorrow, but I have a book I requested that appears to be sitting on an inactive account. Will the request roll over to a new sender even if I put my account on hold?

Adrienne--

If you put your shelf on hold and the request times out, it will NOT be offered to the next person until your shelf is active again.

Amee--

Hmmm...not sure about that--you can still order books while your shelf is on hold, so I would think it would roll over normally. Let us know!

I think I disagree with Amee.  I think if the book "rolls over" since it's a pending request at the time the bookshelf goes on hold, it will still be considered a pending request even if current member doesn't accept, and so the transaction WON'T go on hold when it rolls over. but instead will remain an active book.  That's my understanding, anyway, although I haven't been in this situation yet to know for certain.

Help Center example lists as a visual example that putting your bookshelf on Hold is like wrapping it with giftwrap, making the books inside the giftwrap inactive/invisible to other members.  Pending/active transactions are outside the giftwrap, and are visible.  I don't think that the Hold request book will suddenly "jump into" the giftwrap after the currently pending Hold is declined.

Likewise, I think that Amee's request WILL roll over to a new Sender, even if she puts her account on hold, because it is an active transaction at the time she "adds giftwrap" / puts her account on hold...

Help Center says:

If you get a request by email while your Bookshelf is on hold, that means:

...and all wishing members declined (or didn't respond to) the offer of the book when the last Wishing member's offer expires, the book will go back onto your bookshelf as an available item. This is because the book was put back onto your bookshelf while it was on hold. Think of a bookshelf Hold as Wrapping a present.  If you wrap the present, and then lay a book on top, the Hold (the wrapping paper) does not hide it. Other members can then request this available book from you, even while the Hold is in effect.

I have experience with this. The WL book you posted will not roll over. It will go on your shelf on hold if they decline or let it time out. It will not cancel the current hold.  I have done this before when I've accidentally damaged a WL book.  I've also been annoyed many times by having to keep coming off hold to get a book to roll over to yet another person.

Not sure about the book you requested.  I haven't had a non-WL book time out on me while I was on hold.  I know you can request books while on vacation (I do it all the time) so I would assume it would pass the request on until it found someone.

The Help Center documents are not up to date on this stuff IMO. A lot of that functionality changed right around when I joined but the Help Center did not.

Wish List offers - If you put your Bookshelf on Vacation Hold while you have a books posted pending in a Wish List Hold: The current offer will remain active and if that person accepts you will have a request. If the current offer is declined or times out, the system will place it on your bookshelf until you remove the Vacation Hold and only then will it re-offer the book.

Requests from you - will be passed on to a new sender regardless of Vacation Hold until you get the book or there are no other copies. You can request books all you want with a VH in place.
