I feel like a bad person having to turn down an RC!  Had a request today that said, book must be from a non-smoking home and only books that "are in good new/used condition."  Now the No Smoking is not an issue but, the last part of the condition was where I had a problem...I consider my book in good condition...no tears, stains, no writing, no water damage, spine intact...etc BUT, it has a remainder mark on the bottom edge and the top edge is just starting to yellow and the front cover has a few bends (not creased) so, from the RC I don't know if this person would think my book would have met their RC's...but, I still feel bad turning it down.

I wish people would be more specific!!!

I would have done the same thing, Christy. Don't worry about it.

People who use RC's (and i am one), are asking you to to the best you can to judge your book BEFORE it gets into theur hands. they expect to be refused sometimes. If your comment as to why you refused let them know that you were uncertain due to vagueness, that could help them decide if their RC's are doing the job they expect or not.

I probably would haved turned down that one too unless it was a book I had gotten brand new and it still looked brand new.  Anything postable but obviously read a couple times-I would have turned down.

I think you did the right thing too, Christy.  Definitely don't feel bad!  The requestor will just go to the next person in the FIFO line.  Maybe they want all of their books as keepers, so they request 'like new' books.

after you turn them down can you pm them saying their conditions are too vague?  it might be helpful for them to know that.

When you decline you have to give a reason and I explained that while my home was a non-smoking home the "are in good new/used condition." was too vague. I said mine had a remainder mark and I didn't know if that would meet their conditions or not.  They did not include a way to PM them in their condition (something I do in case anyone ever has a question) so, I had to decline.

I just posted about the same thing...the person requesting from me basically wanted a brand-new book and b/c mine had one small crease in a page, I turned her down.   I don't feel badly about it b/c I think some people are just a little too fussy about used books.  I don't want a stinky, smelly book that is all creased and falling apart, either, and I like to have the dustjacket on a hardcover, but I don't mind if the cover is a little creased or a page corner is bent.

Don't worry...they will get the copy they want sooner or later.
