Sequel to Cirque Du Freak: A Living Nightmare.

The story picks up a few months later. Darren is living as Mr Crepsley's assistant and working behind the scenes at the Cirque Du Freak. He befriends Ezra the Snake-Boy and they meet a human boy named Sam. Darren still won't drink human blood and he becomes weaker and weaker as the book goes on.

This is a very fun and entertaining series. Great for the Halloween season. Dark and atmospheric. The story is still focused on the relationship between Darren and Mr Crepsley, but it also covers his friendship with the boys Ezra and Sam. I look forward to the vampire world opening up in the third book when the Vampire Generals are thrust into the story.

Definitely a good series that takes the vampire and makes them a little bit more real. They aren't immortal, they can't change shape and they don't kill humans. Shan has created a very interesting world that I look forward to continuing in Book 3, Tunnels of Blood.
