How long does it generally take for a new address to be verified and put into the USPS database? I asked the lady behind the counter at the PO and she didn't really understand what I was talking about. I moved a month ago and I'd really like to start receiving books again, but I can't update my address until it's in the database. |

http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/help_item.php?id=588 All accounts which have addresses that do not match USPS's database have been temporarily suspended and members are being told to go to USPS to get the validated form of their address and provide it to us. Have you verified with USPS the proper format of your address? ETA: If your account is suspended with the message that your address could not be validated with USPS, please:

It's a new address (house was just built) so I can't verify it at that site because it hasn't been put into the database yet (even though I already receive mail here). Addresses on the older portion of the street have been entered (I can look up the street name), so I'm hoping I won't have to wait too much longer for them to input our part of the street. Maybe I'll try calling the USPS number. |

If it's going to take them a while, it might be worth it to grab a PO box for a 6 month subscription so you don't have to miss out on anything while you wait. |

From the Help Center doc titled "Why won't my mailing address work here? What do I do to make it work?"
How to get your address to be recognized by the US Postal Service (USPS) online database so it can be used here:

I did it years ago for an address I was renting. (Could not put my mail on hold as the address was not verified.). There was a form and it took several weeks. Later, my postal carrier came up to me and thanked me. The address was added to the route, adding time and salary for the carrier.

When I had to do it a couple years ago, it took about 2 or 3 months. After calling the USPS number several times and visiting my local post office and the regional sorting center a couple times, they finally gave me the number for the people that manage the website database ( which is/was at the time different from the database USPS uses). They told me that the databases don't sync very often, but they scheduled one and it finally worked. Maybe it is updated monthly now, but it wasn't 3 years ago. Luckily my old roommate lived across the street and let me use her address on anything that required a validated address until it was worked out. This was my experience. Contacting AMS is what finally helped. Last Edited on: 1/27/12 8:59 AM ET - Total times edited: 2 |
