Does anyone use Veritas Press for Bible, history, and/or literature? I am using them for these subjects, but I find that it is too expensive each year to buy the teacher's CD, the set of cards, and the additional books to go along with the "core" materials. I have gone through all five years of both Bible and history with my son, but next school year I will be starting over with my daughter who will then be in second grade. She is a very good reader and will want to read more of the books and novels that go along with history. I also would like to have a good selection of their literature books. I have tried to find what I'm looking for on the website, but haven't had much luck. It seems that all of the books I would like are already on the wish lists of 10 or 20 other people too. I would not mind at all borrowing the books and then returning them after we have used them if someone is interested in doing that. I have some of the books for 5th and 6th graders (not a lot) that I would be willing to send and then let you return after you are done with them too if anyone is interested. In short, here's what I'm looking for: books for 2nd or 3rd grade that go along with the 2nd and 3rd grade Veritas Press history program; books for 2nd or 3rd grade that are suggested in their "literature" section; and books for 6th grade that go along with history or literature. We do Veritas Press and are on our 7th year - we absolutely love it. I've got 3 kiddos, so can't part with anything. But, I wanted to encourage you that I have gotten so many items from this site. Go ahead and put them on your wish list - especially if you have a whole year left before you actually need them. I've been amazed at some of the things that have come available - even the literature guides! AND once you find someone who's offering you a specifically Veritas Press publication, you can PM them and ask if they perchance have any other items they will be listing soon. I had one Mom check out my entire Wish List and offer me about a half dozen of the thngs on there - things she wasn't even thinking about listing! This site is a wonderful way to stretch your budget! I noticed that a lot of the books are already "tagged" "Veritas Press" - which is a help! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! Vicki |

Wendy, It would be a good idea to list the specific titles that you are looking for. I did follow the Veritas lists when selecting books to go with our spine unit study, just because they looked like a good bunch of books. But now I'm not likely to go and research it all over again just to find out if I have some that someone "might" want. I see the same thing on the wanted boards at homeschoolclassifiedcom (You know where the dot belongs...) People will post that they are looking for Sunlight 4 or something. Most people not using a certain curriculum will know what titles that means... I do have a lot of classic books listed in my profile as freebies with any order. They are still intact and readable, but either my high schoolers have outgrown them, or we bought hardback copies for our permanent library. You're welcome to choose as many of them as you need. Also one hint for getting your books faster than the FIFO system here would usually take - Put all of your WL books on Auto-accept and mention that fact in your profile and in your forums profile, similar to how I have it below. I have gotten books from people that needed a credit that were were on MANY WL's ahead of me. One book had over 100 people... Since starting this I try to keep a couple of credits ahead so I don't have to disappoint someone that needs the credit within the 48 hour time limit. Boxing might help you get some books cheaper, but doesn't help much for books that have a waiting list. Hopefully some of these ideas help! I'll be checking back to see if you've added a list, and I'm going right now to see you WL. Chandra |

Thanks for the tips. I'm new to the site, so I really didn't even know about the auto-accept offer. I have not really had much time lately to take a good look at the site to see what all of my options are. I do have many of the specific books I want listed on my wish list. Did you mean that I should list them there, or should I list them here on the discussion forum? Also, I just went to my wish list and made them all auto-accepts. I appreciate the suggestions and your taking the time to help me. And now I can say... *All of my WISH LIST books are on AUTO-ACCEPT.* Wendy |
