I've been a member for years, but only tonight upgraded and decided to get active again. Is it worth it to post hardbacks that are very popular, like books from series like John Sandford, Alex Delaware, and the Lincoln Rhyme series? I know they must have many thousands of offers...

I can't tell how many have to sell before they'd get to mine. If it's a year or so, that's good, but if it's many years—not so sure it's worth the time and space. Can anyone fill me in?

So grateful!

Paula, if you want to know where you would be on the FIFO line, add your book to your Reminder list.  The Reminder list will show you how many copies of that book are currently in the system.

But that doesn't guarantee your copy would ever be requested since you don't know how many requests are made for that title. On the other hand, your copy can get picked rather than waiting its turn in FIFO, especially if your friends here check your bookshelf before they order something.

I have had many popular titles on my shelf where there were already 200-300 copies available, but my copy got ordered anyway. I have room to store up to 200 books so I just let those books sit and eventually most get requested, even if it takes 2-3 years.

PBS uses directed delivery which bypasses FIFO, so if you are geographically close to requester, your copy may be the one offered even if you are far down the FIFO line. It happened to me several times when I maintained a bookshelf.

Directed Delivery - When multiple copies of a book you order are available, we’ll determine the most expedient route to you. We take into account several factors to get your book to you as quickly as possible, putting special emphasis on the closest geographical location for “Greener swapping”!
