I rather liked this sweet little novel. It portrayed native american people with respect and humor -- a big improvement over those novels that have native men as "savages" who have gone out and "stolen" pretty white women just to have sex with them or keeping them as maids. (Ugh. Don't get me started!)

interesting look at shamanism in the modern world

I enjoyed this book very much. It was a combination love story and mystery set in rural Minnesota.
Contemporary story of a shaman who doesn't really believe in anything except putting food on the table for his daughter. Then he meets the ancestors of the woman he comes to love. Great buildup, but then it seemed as if the author was tired of the story and wrapped it up as quickly as possible.

A very good story that includes a little bit of everything - an old house, a ghost, a shaman, sex, kids, grasping relatives and my favorite character Ariel (who misquotes famous quotes so they make more sense than the original quotes!). A laid back book that isn't overrun with steamy sex scenes (in case that is what you are looking for)
