Dr. Carll is a strong advocate of community service and participates on the boards of professional and community organizations. She is the founder and chair of the New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA) Task Force on Violence; founder and chair emeritus of the NYSPA Disaster/Crisis Response Network, and served as a founding member of the American Psychological Association National Disaster Response Advisory Committee.
