In this novel, newspaper reporters bend over backwards to pose tough questions to the powerful, report objective facts, and avoid sensationalism.Officials of the Executive Branch put politics aside and bring a wealth of probity, integrity, and competence to do what is best for the country. In other words, this novel is science fiction. Kidding aside, the alien visitors of the title are 50-foot high, 200-foot long black boxes that land in wilderness regions of the US. They don't communicate with us earthers, but they do start chowing down on our virgin forests. Why?

Although not an "action" novel with never-ending battles, I did enjoy the concept and writing. The characters were well developed and the book kept my interest thoughout. The era it covers (when newspapers were the source of most news) and some of the background are now a little dated, but it was a fun read and worth the reading.
