For a long time I thought that a bowl of oatmeal was a singualrly unappetizing food to confront first thing in the morning, at breakfast. But I believed it was important for kids to eat breakfast before heading to school, so we had oatmeal frequently at our house. But those blobs of oatmeal were so unesthetic that I gladly provided the kids with "sprinkles" to brighten the breakfast bowl up. Just recently, I've found another breakfast item that is even less appetizing-looking than naked oatmeal......it's blueberry cream cheese. I bought some to spread on my a.m. bagel. The package shows delicious-looking blueberries, long a favorite with this old dame. However....... Upon opening the little tub, one discovers the contents to resemble nothing so much as grout, or plumber's putty. The sludge is gray-with-a-slight-tint-of-mauve in color. I guess it's just another one of those foods that taste all right, but sure don't look like something edible. I just shut my eyes and eat it anyway . . . . Bonnie, I am with you. A grey/mauve putty would not be appetizing at all, especially in the morning. I doubt I would ever buy a package of that stuff again. How about instead plain cream cheese with blueerry jam? Or even with real blueberries when they are available----and affordable?

I have eaten that blueberry cream cheese, never thought about how it looked. It tasted good to me. I agree, Stephanie, cream cheese with real blueberries would be even better. |

Well I like my oatmeal with milk and I usually add cinnamon and raisins so I don't really see the oatmeal all that much. The blueberries don't incorporate in yogurt all that well either. I'm not really a blue food afficianado but as you say it taste good so it's ok with me too. |

Put some more milk in it, oatmeal shouldn't be in blobs. Add some brown sugar, apple cubes, it will look just fine. |

The first time I made Marsala sauce, it was referred to as "brown goop" and nobody wanted to try it. After they had some, I was told that I could make it anytime. I also have a balsalmic pork and red potatoes recipe that looks sort of like canned dog food when you cook it in the crockpot, but every bit of it gets eaten and I've had lots of requests for the recipe. It is far more presentable when cooked in the oven.

Vitallia: Would it help, perhaps, to call it "Porc et pommes de terre a la Alpo" ? |
