Although this is a work of fiction, the author helped me understand more about the culture of Russia than any non-fiction text ever could. Deep and well-written.
very good spy type thriller
Other than stumbling over the Russian names, this was an excellent story. An American woman is in charge of privatizing a vodka factory in Russia run by a gangster. She is also an alcoholic. And married. And she gets involved with the gangster. Throw in some child murders, crooked cops, and vodka, and more vodka. Very good enthralling story.
Excellent book dealing with Russian crime syndicates and politics in the new Russia.

Interesting look into modern day Russia's take on capitalizing that country, doing business through gang enforccement and intimidation. No so like the old Russia.
Interesting take on Russian attitudes and living conditions. Excellent mystery with a bit of sex and intrigue.
Interesting, may make you squeamish in a few places.
