I have a question. I keep seeing posts about books where the wrappers, but not the books were damaged and people complaining about using the paper for the wrapper. If the wrapper, but not the book is damaged, do you let the sender know or just post on here about it? Curious b/c I send 99 percent of my paperbacks wrapped in plastic, then the PBS wrapper and have never gotten a complaint. But, now I'm wondering if people are just not telling me. Just curious. I'd want to know if 1/2 mybooks were arriving in torn wrappers.

I let people know.  Some of the things I have seen that really cause problems are people using only 1 sheet to wrap their books or not using enough (or the right kind of) tape.  I've had some arrive that were barely still in the package.  From my perspective, I would think people would want to know this or otherwise a large percentage of the books that mail will end up lost.  I've never had anyone get angry with me when I contacted them, but I'm always nice about it.

I do the same, wrap in plastic and then both pieces of paper and lots of tape (assuming MMPB and not a larger book and those go in envelopes).  No one has said that it was beaten up in transit and I've gotten many thanks for wrapping in plastic and using lots of tape

I let people know and they usually appreciate being told.  I figure if my book wasn't damamged someone else's might be. So if they know mine was damamged and then they get a RWP from someone they might realize they are not wrapping well enough or that their books are being dmg in transit and they need to take extra care.  I would want to know.  I received 3 books from dif areas of the country on the same day and all were barely in their packaging.  Luckily the books were all right. But I'm thinking that the problem is somewhere towards my end. So now I'm wrapping my books with extra care.  I still let the people know.

I don't normally wrap mine in plastic.  The envelopes I use have plastic on the inside of them and I have only gotten one complaint in the year i've been here, and that was recently due to the storms I think, the requester was very understanding, I sent her an extra credit for the trouble, but she sent it back to me saying it wasn't necessary as she knows it wasn't my fault.  =)

Yes, as others have said, I let them know and usually offer a suggestion as to what looked lacking.  It is almost always no tape on the sides.  The PBS wrapper really will hold up nicely if all four sides are protected.  (and I don't mean a cocoon of tape is needed, either, lol)  If you word such a PM nicely, the sender really does appreciate knowing.  Most members care and just don't realize.  I know that i never would have considered plastic if it weren't for the forums and my very nice postal lady explained the perils of not taping down an envelope well.

I let them know if their wrapper was damaged, but I also let them know if they wrapped really well and it got to me in perfect condition.

I just had one that came wrapped in that really thin brown paper used in elementary schools, it even had crayon drawings all over it.  Where there was not tape, it ripped.  But luckily the book was not harmed.  I did PM the sender to let her know, which I would want to know so that I could fix the issue.
